Canon 10D - SOLD

I have sold my Canon 10D with the 28-135mm Lens.

My first time on eBay and it was a complete pleasure. No hassle, first time and sold without a problem.

I'm sorry to see it go as it taught me so my about photography. But with the 20D it was only there as backup and very rarely used.

With its sale it has funded my workshop for picture framing.

I also sold my Sony 717 with all the add on lenses via eBay with a faultless procedure. Thanks eBay :]

PHOTO SHOOT > Back into Shape

Back into ShapeA really challenging photo shot in a small on site location. A video was being shot at the same time and they provided lighting and back drops. The lighting as it turned out was very poor. I ended up shooting at ISO800!
Overall I found the experience very rewarding, acting as 'art-director' ;) it was good setting the scene, positioning the models, lights etc.
I used my 20D 'M' mode with my 17-40mm lens. Typically shooting at ISO800, 1/80, F7.1
Pictures posted here.

Photo Shoot
Indoor architectural photo shoot.

ReformI was very fortunate to be asked to take pictures for an exclusive club down Pall Mall, London where the Former Tory Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind was to be guest of honour.
I took the opportunity to spend a hour or so before the guests arrived to take some long exposure shots of the superb architecture within the building.
Overall it was a fanatastic experience and a great practice for indoor architectural photography.

Just a quick note wishing all you photo nuts all the best and have a great 2005.
In 2005:
I have decided to enter the Digital Photo Competition. It runs in each monthly issue between Jan 05 and Aug 05. Obviously there is very little chance of winning but it should be a fantastic way of learning and getting some valuable feedback.

WINNER - Photo of the Month
Can't believe it. First time I have entered into a competition and I win! The photo that won was my 'table for two' taken a few years ago when on holiday on the island of Santorini.
The kind folks from Digital Photo magazine have sent me two excellent books. The first is titled 'digital photography' from the 'Collins' series. The other is an excellent step by step guide to landscape photography by Tim Gartside.
Winning image can be seen here or go to your local newsagents and buy the December issue of Digital Photo.

NEW CAMERA > Canon 20D
I have taken the plunge, earlier than I thought I would. But I am now the owner for Canon new 20D.
First impressions are good, the camera is smaller than it predecessor the 10D. Lighter and generally more compact. It has a near instant turn on which is awesome.
I will be doing some tests on it over the next month or two but with playing around with it over the last few weeks it new 9 point focus system is brilliant.
A big improvement is the low noise even up to ISO 800 is great.

Published images in GW
I am chuffed to bits! Matt Shardlow of BugLife.org.uk has written an article about Spiders in the garden for BBC's Gardeners World. Wanting images to support his article he recommended my images to the BBC for possible use.
Enormous thanks goes to Matt for this brilliant opportunity.
If you're interested in seeing my images and the article in full then pop down to your newsagents and get a copy of the November issue :]

New gallery uploaded, France 2004
I have just posted a new gallery. Again it's mainly macros of bugs and insects. We spent a week in France at the cottage 'www.mediamoment.com/bordes'
The garden was full of wild flowers. I found that if you sat in one spot for 5-10 minutes then you can see loads more stuff than just walking around. I have never seen so many crickets and hoover flies. Excited to see a humming bird moth return several times a day.

Darjeeling, India - 3 day trip
How lucky, just returned from a trip to Darjeeling, India. Amazing countryside. It was the wet season so was not lucky enough to catch a glimpse for the Himalayas.
However the cloud hanging in the valleys and forests made it ideal for atmospheric shots. Examples of this trip have just been uploaded.
Took my 12-24 Sigma wide angle zoom and was very pleased with the results. Although I do not find it as crisp as the 17-40 Canon I really used the extra wide angle to get some good city shots as well as some good wide country captures. Would appreciate any thoughts on these images :]

Belushi's photo shoot uploaded
I have uploaded my first commercial photo shoot. Belushi's Bar and Backpackers wanted to update their portfolio and add some new imagery to their existing website. It was a fantastic opportunity, great fun, learnt loads about flash photography and dealing with pi$$ed people ;¬)
It also coincided with the Rip Curl Surf Festival, bonus.

10 days visiting Naples, Florida.
Just uploaded some images from this wonderful trip to Naples, Florida. The main purpose of the holiday was for golf with 3-4 rest days to check out the abundant wildlife in the area.
I am very pleased with several of these images and consider these my best collection of images to date.
It's not everyday you can say that you played golf with Golden Eagles flying overhead (and you were lucky enough to have a 400mm zoom lens on your camera, I was that lucky...)
The highlight was watching an osprey from 20ft away catching and eating a fish, stunning. Check out the Naples gallery for all the images.

Succesfully cleaned 10D sensor.
What a stress! I was frustrated with dust spots all over my images, especially with high F numbers and landscape shots. The results were hundreds of tiny black dots over the images.
Trawling through numerous forums I found a great article that provided the secrets of cleaning ones sensor without the filling your pants.

Personal Project for 2004
I feel the need to specialise in a particular area of photography, well just for the next few months anyway. You will see from my last news posting that I have acquired Canon's amazing MP-E 65mm macro lens.
I have tried a number of photographical sectors; sports, motor racing, infrared... but macro is something that makes me want to get out there and shoot.
To help me gain experience in this area I have set myself a personal project. I have called the subject 'Things in the garden' - fairly pointless but I need a focus and I only have to open the back door to find my subjects!
You will find all my latest images in the gallery section under 'Things in the garden', obvious really.

New Lens - MP-E 65mm
I have managed to persuade my bank balance to buy the amazing Canon MP-E 65mm Macro lens.
To be honest I was taking advantage of my sister's regular visits over the pond to New York. With the strong dollar I couldn't resist.
Before deciding on this unit I read loads of articles on the www.dpreview.com website and got some great help from the excellent forums on there.
I almost went for the 180mm Canon macro but was blown away with the stunning galleries of Frank Philips. I had to get one of those lenses.
So far I have had some good results.
To view images taken with this lens use the 'VIEW by lens' drop down menu on the left hand side. I would like to hear your comments if you have any knowledge of this lens - Jon
